I am lucky enough to be shooting this pair, telling the story of their day shortly. I like to meet couples prior to their wedding day if at all possible so we can just chat and get to know each other a little. I know we are a good fit when I come away knowing I have a card full of natural looking shots, shot with a relaxed feel to them in a place where they feel at ease.

This gives the couple a chance to have a little time in front of the camera before their day and gives all a chance for a few giggles and some added shots to take away and hopefully settles any nerves they may have about being photographed lots.....

This pair were an absolute joy to meet up with, were clearly smitten with each other and I can't wait to spend the day with them soon.

"Light and Dark" inspired styled bridal shoot with Cornish based creatives.

I don't shoot many styled shoots, not because I don't want to, quite the opposite, I really enjoy the creative stimulation of spending time with others who have ideas and help to create some something that is bigger than one person's input. I don't shoot many because of the lack of time to fit them in with all the of life's other stuff that has to be done. These shoots are a bit of a luxury to be part of, but an essential luxury (if that makes sense!) to keep the ideas flowing and give time to experiment, collaborate and be part of something shared, all of which I think are healthy ingredients for life generally.

This shoot, as many do evolved on the day of the shoot itself to accommodate the weather, spaces and resources to hand. Pre-shoot visits has sown ideas in minds but it is not until you see what light you get on the day that you can visualise the images fully.

The venue was Woodland Valley Farm, near Ladock, a working farm and a venue that suits couples with sustainable and green principles as Chris the owner, builds these ethics into his management of the site. There are a range of spaces and woodland that can accommodate a range of guest numbers and you can hire the place for the weekend to camp over or stay in the accommodation on site. Schools sometimes use the site too for field work and residential stays. The site offers the option of festival style weddings and also has a few cider and music events through the year as well. A big thanks to Chris for letting us use his venue.

Claire and Gaby, our venue contacts helped us prepare things in advance for which we are hugely grateful. We were also lucky enough to have local wedding industry suppliers the Cornwall Cutting Garden helping us to dress a handmade Arch kindly provided by another Chris, from Artisan Arches and also to provide bouquets and stunning head pieces too. I was reminded how lucky couples getting married in Cornwall are to have such amazing craftspeople to choose from.

In addition, two such positive forces of nature, Vicki from Vicki Hoskin Hair Artistry and Laura from Dollface provided hair and make up creativity - these peeps are just incredible, they have boundless enthusiasm and I have been lucky enough to work with them on the other styled shoot I have been part of this year and at a real wedding recently too.

The shoot came together with the lovely Tracey from Bliss Bridal in Perranporth, kindly providing gorgeous dress that looked great on our fabulous models for the day - Davinia and Cassie, deserve a special mention and thanks as they braved some cold weather and still looked spectacular!

The rain forced us to retire to the big barn in the afternoon where our 'dark' images were born, Vicki and Laura came into their own, laden with props and ideas, I can't thank everyone enough.

A huge shout out to all the people and local creative business that freely gave their time, energy and resources to help us produce a set of images, which I hope you will enjoy looking through. St Elizabeth's House, Plympton - pre wedding shoot with Danielle & Luke

This morning I met this lovely pair at St Elizabeth's House, Plympton to have coffee and talk over their upcoming special day. Before we all headed off, we took a little time to explore the lovely grounds and nearby village to capture some shots of them before they get hitched and to have a little practice and take some fun, relaxed shoots of them both.

They did a great job and I am looking forward to telling their story in pictures loads, here's a few of the shoots we took.

Melza and Will, one shot preview from last Saturday's gorgeous wedding.

Today's blog post is just a quick one - a one shot preview of Melza and Will from last Saturday's wedding. I traveled to Gloucester to be with them and shoot their wedding after we met in Cornwall. it was a day of mixed weather, we had everything, hot sun, overcast heavy skies and monsoon like rain at times. I had spied this tree avenue at the church the evening before when I did a little recce of the church etc. I love the way the couple are framed by the dark tree that concentrate your view on Melza and Will. Pre-wedding meet up with Jenny and Jonathan at the Glendorgal Hotel, Newquay, Cornwall

So on Monday I met with the lovely Jenny and Jonathan, soon to be married at the Glendorgal Hotel in Newquay with stunning views of the beach below. We had a relaxed chat over a coffee and they shared their fears about being the centre of attention all day and having their photos taken. This is pretty usual for most couples, at least one of the pair would really rather not be in front of the camera.

After coffee, they showed me around and we decided it would be get to get a few shots under their belt to ease their worries. We took these and I think they did great. We all parted, smiles on faces and hopefully with a sense of relief that wedding day photos needn't be traumatic and are something that can be fun if you and you and your chosen photographer 'click' together.

I like this pair a lot - their day will be just ace, I know it.

Lower Barns Boutique wedding in Cornwall - Emma & Simon

This was my first wedding shot at the amazing wedding venue that is the boutique hideaway of Lower Barns. Nestled just inland from the Cornish coast between Pentewan and Meva, it is an eclectic mix of styles that will have you finding new gems of art and incredible detail at every twist and turn. Owners Mike and Janie have worked incredibly hard to create a unique location and venue for a very individual and intimate day.

Emma and Simon asked me to capture their day ages ago, we didn't get the chance to meet first hand prior to their big day but after a call to check details, I knew we would be a good match. They, their family and their friends were so welcoming, as were hosts, Mike and Janie and it really does make a difference on the day.

I arrived in good time to capture a relaxed start to the days events and took shots of details like Emma's shoes and her pearls, which were her grandmothers and so of great importance to her. The boys we dutifully filling the very orange SMEG's with beer and bubbly, and stunning flowers were prepped and pinned.

Guests took their places in comfy and equally chilled style, in deck chairs with shade provided by a stunning canopy that Mike had shipped in recently to add versatility to the already amazing spaces.

Big smiles and a few tears appeared as Emma was led by her father to the awaiting Simon at the 'WedShed', unique among venues I have photographed.

After a wonderful ceremony, we headed off to Caerhays beach for a short break and a few very relaxed few shots to give Emma and Simon a bit of time together and then headed back to Lower Barns for a chilled afternoon of lawn games, giant bubble blowing and my personal favourite, a spot of space hopping!

A had a truly lovely day, thanks to Emma, Simon and all their family and friends for letting me be part of it and to Mike and Janie and their staff too!

Pre-wedding photos with Melza & Will, Porthleven, Cornwall

This week I met the loveliest of couples......Melza and Will. These guys were the most chilled and relaxed pre-wedding couple I think I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Their wedding will be in Gloucester but they are currently Helston based with a soft spot for Porthleven, so what better place to meet before their special day to chat over their plans and shoot a few images. The days have suddenly warmed and the sun has been a long time coming but we were blessed with a lovely evening, a clear, azure sea and the lure of a pint of Doom in what has to be one of the best pubs I know, be rude not to wouldn't it......

I just know their wedding will be amazing and I can't wait to capture it for them, enjoy the run up guys xx

St Neot Church and Trevenna Barns wedding - Laura and Rich

Laura and Richard's amazing wedding day started at the family home on the edge of Bodmin Moor, with a ceremony at the beautiful St Neot Church and a celebration that followed at the stunning wedding venue that is Trevenna. Laura wore Naomi Neoh 'Frieda' from the Bridal House of Cornwall, her hair was beautifully styled by Lyndy Ewings from Tavistock. Her flowers were lovingly crafted by Sharon Mesher and her make up artist was St Austell based Lindsay Adams. I had a fab day with these two and their families and friends. The evening featured a ceilidh dance which was just the best way to celebrate and involve everyone in the fun.

Yesterday I got to meet up with Laura and Rich at Trevenna Barns, near St Neot for a chat about how their wedding plans are going and a catch up with Laura's dad, Martin, who is a friend of 15 years. I was lucky enough to be invited to Martin and Julia's beautiful home for lunch before heading off to visit St Noet Church and Trevenna for a little nose around.

A relaxed and elegant wedding

I absolutely loved shooting the photos for Ellie and Ian's wedding, from the moment I arrived, the love and energy of their friends and family shone through and they were a dream bunch of people to capture photos of - planned well but relaxed on the day. Shooting started at the Liscawn Hotel, a beautiful, tucked away little place in the wonderfully named Crafthole. The ladies were in full preparation mode and shortly after I arrived, celebratory corks were popped by Ellie's lovely bridemaids. I followed my nose to the boys - sure enough, it was a safe bet they would be found eating a cooked breakfast!! As the morning moved along, Ellie got into her dress and there was just time for me to capture of few of her dress being fastened, I'm glad I did, they are always some of my favourite shots. We headed off to Maker Church, set on the heights of the Rame peninsula, commanding amazing views all around. A gorgeous setting and equally gorgeous ceremony, albeit with strict instructions from the vicar not to move.......After the ceremony, we took a few minutes out to take a few portraits and then headed to the beautiful Mount Edgcumbe House. The guests enjoyed the grounds, playing lawn games, sampled canapés and bubbles, all basked in sunshine on one of the nicest days this year. There was even a bit of tadpole tickling too. Following the meal, I witnessed speeches that frankly had me in tears of laughter and there were moving moments from past memories shared, it was a truly lovely treat to share in the next chapter of this couple's life. Cigars and brandy followed as the sun lowered in the sky a little to mellow the light, with some opportunities to use the golden glow to back light the guests, something I love doing in shots when possible. Ian grabbed his glass (good man) and we headed off for another quiet couple moment for 10 minutes or so, capturing some more portraits to make the most of the last of the sunlight before it dipped below the horizon. A quick set up of off camera lighting as the band warmed up and Bill Ding and the Skyscapers kicked off the evening for the first dance and worked the crowd with their versions of just about all music types you can image. I have to say the band and the guests were all amazing, making for a gathering that was off the scale of fun. Here's some shots from the day, thanks sooooo much Ellie and Ian, I had a fab time, big love to you both, your families and friends and I hope you both have a long and happy future. xx

Merchants Manor wedding, Cornwall - Lana and Jamie's celebrations

I have known Jamie for over 10 years and was delighted when he asked if I would consider shooting the photos for his wedding to Lana. Their ceremony and reception were both held at the Merchant's Manor in Falmouth, a great venue that has lots of light and interesting spaces that all added to the ambience of the day and the resulting images.

As their ceremony was pm rather than am, it allowed me to meet up with Lana and the girls in the Diva Hair and Beauty Salon in Penryn. I love starting the day in this way, it provided a chilled out way for Lana to get used to being centre of attention and meant that she quickly got used to the camera and forget I was even there.

A few glasses of a little something for the girls and I headed over to J's to capture the morning with the groomsmen and some prep shots. Fortunately all the locations and venues for the day were close by and that meant I could bunny hop around to make sure I captured as much of the event as possible. I headed back to the Merchants Manor Hotel and Lana was in her suite with family getting ready. This meant I could shoot shoes, flowers and dresses and the joyful celebrations before the ceremony itself. The atmosphere was lovely and the amazing flowers I came to find out, were prepared by Lana's very talented mum, Marie.

Dresses were readied and laced up, Dad popped into the room to have an emotional preview and there was just time for a few small group shots before the ceremony itself.

There was a first for me during the speeches - with the groomsmen starting with a gag, literally, to render Jamie's dad, Henry, speechless!!

As afternoon turned to evening, we shot some couple images in the newly installed summer house in the hotel gardens and then I finished a great day taking some shots of Lana and Jamie's first dance.

I had a great time with friends and lovely family members too and enjoyed covering their day enormously at this lovely wedding venue that is the Merchants Manor Hotel, Falmouth.

Poldark Land

Poldark landscape

With the recent end of the first series of Poldark, there is a glum face in our house. Ross Poldark will not be appearing 'till the next series, much to Lucie's annoyance. So to cheer her up and to burn off some of the endless energy that our kids seem to have, we headed out to West Penwith to have a nosey around some of the ancient landscapes that Ross might have come across himself....

No sightings of him though, or the lovely Demelza for that matter.....

If you have not visited Ding Dong Mine, the Men-an-tol, the Nine Maidens, Carn Galver, Lanyon Quoit or just wandered around the landscape in this part of Cornwall, it really is an incredible mix of heritage, wildlife and big views, which on a day like today provides some dramatic skies to capture and a few hours of appetite building stomping.

Pre wedding meet up with Ellie and Ian at Mount Edgcumbe House, Cornwall

This afternoon I headed up to Maker Church and Mount Edgcumbe House to meet up with Ellie and Ian for some pre-wedding chat to check the details of their day with them. Needless to say I took my cameras with me to allow us to take a few shots whilst we were there. The church is gorgeous, perched above the house, with only a short distance between them. The house itself is pretty amazing, with vistas to the Tamar and across to Plymouth down the long lawn that leads down from the house. The gardens are spectacular and I have to say that I am really excited to be shooting their wedding there in a few weeks time. The gardens are home to the National Camellia Collection and are partly Listed too. The visit and time spent with Ellie and Ian was lovely in the afternoon sun, there are so many possibilities for shots - holding back due to time will be the problem!

One shot preview - Lana and Jamie's Merchant Manor wedding, Falmouth, Cornwall

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of shooting the photos at Lana and Jamie's wedding at the Merchant's Manor Hotel, Falmouth in Cornwall. I have known Jamie for about 10 years I suppose and got to know him though a mutual friend, Rich.

Merchant's Manor has recently installed this lovely summer house in their garden area and we made good use of it to shoot some couples portraits, lighting Lana and Jamie with off camera flash and back lighting them a little too for a slight halo effect.

Amazing fog formations off Cornwall's north coast

On Tues evening I had just received the phone call from the garage and waited for those all important words "it's passed"!! I was of course delighted and in celebration I thought I would take the car in question (an old TT, but I still love it) for a pootle along the road known to most people locally as north cliffs. It is a section of road that I used to ride motorcycles along, unfortunately those biking days have passed for the time being but with a bit of Lennie Kravitz for toons I literally headed off into the sunset. It did not last long, Portreath was a white out of fog, pea soup like. I was going to turn around but a little voice told me to carry on to Gwithian.

I'm glad I did...........

Moments in time

What is it that drives a photographer to keep pushing that shutter in pursuit of engaging images that hold the attention of the viewer? For me, it is more than just trying to capture a record of an event such as a wedding. I am always looking for ways to convey the emotions that people are showing in real time in front of me and condense that into a single frame.

Many photographers don't like shooting weddings - yes they are hard work, and yes there is a pressure to capture unrepeatable moments, but I love them. You are transported into the world of other families for a day or so and with this comes a real sense of responsibility. It is the reason you absolutely have to connect with your wedding photographer. I personally like to meet my couples before the wedding itself, at least once to get to know them a little and what makes them tick. I know other photographers that don't do pre-meets and it still works for them but for me, I think that investment in time is worth every second.

Here are some of my favourite past moments in time from recent weddings, they are images that immediately take me back to the story that was unfolding in front of me and I hope that the same is true for the couples who I shot them for. xx

A couple of weeks ago I had a fun few hours shooting some images for local bridal boutique, Amanda K. She has received some new dresses for bridesmaids and needed some images to show them off. She has an amazing boutique and offers a personal and unique experience for every bride that visits her so if you are thinking about where to buy that once in a lifetime dress, I recommend that she is on your list.

Alex & Doug's Nancarrow Farm wedding, near Truro, Cornwall

This is one of two weddings that I shot alongside fellow photographers last year and I have only just had the time to feature it on my blog. I really enjoyed it, so thanks to Emma from Emma Oakes Photography for asking me along. It was on just the best day, windless and calm, sun from the word go and at one of the loveliest venues, Nancarrow Farm, just outside of Truro, Cornwall. Before I had even arrived, I had been out with my black lab for a walk and captured the sunrise that day, on the morning of their wedding. I got to Nancarrow early, with photographers splitting up for this part of the day - I was down to cover the groom, Doug and the families at the farm getting ready. Emma spent the morning with bride to be, Alex before the ceremony. Some of the guests has travelled from the States to be with the couple and were a pleasure to spend the morning with. The venue itself is in a beautiful setting, amongst converted barns, a lake, orchards and gardens, even the odd teepee. The ceremony space is simple, uncomplicated and is flooded with light (we like!) and has photo opportunities at every turn of the head. A lovely couple, a great family, a gorgeous venue, what's not to like.....reminds me, I need to book up one of those Nancarrow Feast nights as soon as........

Rachel and Johnny's Penzance and Sancreed wedding

Rachel and Johnny - Penzance wedding and reception near Sancreed

Rachel and Johnny booked me what seems like ages ago but suddenly their wedding was here, we had been blessed by the best weather for weeks and it broke in the couple of days before their wedding to provide gales and large amounts of rain. Saturday morning came and it had dried overnight and was sunny to start their day. They had planned a marquee at Sancreed on the west penwith moors so this weather window was good news.

I had a second photographer, Emma Oakes shooting alongside me to cover Jonny and his best man specifically, but she also stayed to cover other angles through the day and get those extra shots that having a second photographer allows at a wedding.

Rachel and Johnny have had a busy run up to the wedding to say the least, moving and renovating their house, which they were determined Rachel would leave from on the morning so this added to their already busy plans! Their springer Poppy joined in the day too!! I'm not sure who had the most energy - Poppy or the children!!!

Hayley and Steve's St Agnes wedding, Cornwall

Hayley asked me to shoot her wedding photos via a recommendation. It turned out when we first met up to discuss their plans that I was going to know quite a few people at their wedding, Cornwall is a small place and we were right, I knew about 25 or so of their guests. It was lovely to chat to them all but I also had to keep capturing those shots!!

Hayley and Steve were a dream couple to plan for and work with, they were so relaxed and chilled and their priority was enjoying themselves and the time spent with their guests on the day.

They got married at St Agnes Church and had a reception on the clifftop in a Marquee near Wheal Kitty - it really was a special view out to the north coast. There reception eased into the evening and developed into a humdinger of a party with live music. The sun shone for most of the day and we had some changing light to deal with but that also produced some amazing clouds out at sea which we took advantage of. One of the many highlights of the day - Steve - I will not forget the nickname your dad has been given by your kids for a long time, he did explain the reason for it to me.....!!

Polhawn Fort wedding, south east Cornwall with Donna Sharpe at Kester and Lyndsey's wedding.

Polhawn Fort is just about as far east in the county as you can go and accidents on the A38 are never a good thing, especially when trying to get to new venue to shoot but that's how our day started, stuck in tail-backs for more time than I care to recall on the morning of a wedding. I hope it was nothing serious for those involved.... At this wedding I was asked if I would like to shoot alongside fellow (great) photographer, Donna Sharpe to cover the events of the day as they unfolded. Two photographers can offer several advantages, more angles can be covered, groom prep can also be covered, guests can be more easily organised (it was a showery day so speed helps in this scenario) and on a personal note, it's nice to have some company! You never stop learning as a photographer so this is one way to keep doing just that.

Donna and I travelled up together to find serious delays on the main road to this part of the county - Sat Nav - what a most excellent tool (ok not always) but on this occasion did help a lot. Arriving at the venue we had a quick scout around and met some of the family and friends and got to work on the location shots.

Donna and I split up to cover Lyndsey and Kester getting ready in the parts of the Fort they were staying in, the whole place is an amazing venue, with lawns overlooking the beach below, atmospheric gun rooms with vaulted ceilings, a terrace above, overlooking Whitsand Bay, it goes on...... I captured some shots of Kester with his groomsmen and father as they donned their suits.

The time came to leave to head off to the church at Rame, a challenging church to photograph in due to the low light levels but very special as a result as the natural light adds a certain something. One or two adjustments of the collar, some shots of the rings, Kester waiting for his bride and then Lyndsey arrived, looking stunning in her dress.

The couple had a wonderful ceremony, with a ladies choir joining in and readings which were very moving. Switching between lenses, I took a number of shots to add variety, and the light flooding in the stained glass was pretty special.

Following a very special ceremony in the church, everyone headed back to Polhawn Fort for the reception. Donna hitched a ride with the couple to shoot some couples shots on the cliffs on the way back. She did well to capture a few frames before the heavens opened.

We captured the events as they unfolded, with confetti, canapes and a trip to the beach below the Fort..... I concentrated on capturing the boys on the beach and Donna went with the girls.

After a lot of fun on the beach (thanks guys you were great), we headed back up the steps to shoot a few group shots, the speeches and the first dance.

There were so many lovely photos from the day and it is always hard to pick the ones for a blog post, but I hope this gives a little of the story of the day for Lyndsey and Kester. Many thanks too to Donna Sharpe for asking me shoot side saddle on this one - I had a great day, lots of laughs, great company and some interesting note swapping on shooting this venue!! Natalie and Rob's wedding day at the Alverton Manor Hotel, Cornwall

I was recommended to Natalie by mutual friend Amanda K as someone who might shoot her wedding day. It's always nice to be recommended, so a thank you is due there. I met Nataliee and now husband Rob at the Alverton for a drink and chat about what they wanted from their photos on the their big day. We had a little scout around and Nataliee revealed that she had a particular favourite black and white shot that she had seen on my website. I came away feeling like I had known them for much longer.... a sign that we were right for each other and it was lovely to hear about the details being planned such as Rob's family tartan being sourced for his kilt.

Zoom forward several weeks (where did they go guys?) and the bridal preparations were underway as I arrived so it was straight into work mode to capture and hair and makeup shots, the shoes, the dress and children in the calm(ish!) couple of hours before the ceremony itself.

Rose petals were being picked industriously to lead the walk down the aisle and bubbles were flowing in the glasses of the grown ups.....

The large windows in the room where Nataliee was getting ready provided lovely side lighting, giving atmosphere to the shots. Penny was attending to make up and did not stop smiling, ever!! A trip downstairs to visit the groom and best man, some guests arriving and the impressive piper in full splendour added to the shots mounting up already!!

Whilst the sun was not shining for us, it was still very warm and the bright cloudy sky softened the outdoor shots. The ceremony time arrived in what seemed like moments after I had arrived so guests gathered in the impressive Great Hall, with dramatically lit drapes, a sea of candles and Nataliee's colour scheme of red. The room was dressed wonderfully by Bev from Design my Day and looked amazing. The cake, table arrangements and other details all completed the look in the Hall.

There was a little time to capture a few shots of Rob waiting for his wife-to-be and then the ceremony got under way, with pipes playing, making the hairs on the back of my neck tingle, Natalie following a trail of rose petals scattered down the aisle before her.

Here comes the bride....Almost time...

The Registrar was amazing (thanks) (mostly because he let me wander at will within reason, something that not all Registrars are happy to allow photographers to do!!) and also because the ceremony was fun and light hearted at the same time as recognising the significance of the day.

The ceremony continued, the exchanges of vows and rings (among some lovely smiles and looks from the couple)took place and then came the all important first kiss.

Following the formalities, the couple led their guests outside to cooler air where they all formed into lines for a 'confetti tunnel' - Natalie had some helping hands to add confetti to places that brought on some giggles and laughter, all lovely for some animated photos.

Drinks on the terrace followed, a private and quiet space, separated from the road by lovely ground and landscaped gardens. Guests chatted and caught up whilst the children did what children do best - explore and roam!! (and raid the candy cart!!)

The wedding breakfast allowed me to have a little break and then I captured the speeches by Natalie's father, Rob and Best Man. A couple of sups of bubbles later and guests were again mingling and relaxing into the afternoon. The kids continued to play with seemingly endless amounts of energy, with the odd power nap and Nikki and her amazing team changed the room again to create a space ready for the evening celebrations to take place.

By early evening, other guests began arrive, high heels were off and the dance floor cleared to allow the cutting of the cake, the bouquet throwing and the first dances. Natalie first enjoyed a little time with her father and then followed with a first dance with Rob. The balcony beckoned and I dashed around and up the stairs to capture a few shows from above.

I left the happy couple and their guests a wee while later, another lovely day witnessed and committed to memory cards and travelled home to back up all files from the day over a little glass of something myself!

Opening event photos, new location in Mansion House, Truro for Amanda K

I had the pleasure to be invited to attend the opening night celebrations for the stunning new bridal boutique that is Amanda K in Truro last night. Amanda and her team and friends have all worked tirelessly to get the incredible venue ready for the opening and celebrated with a launch event.

The event was very special and the atmosphere had a buzz supported by music from the incredible Swingology who I met for the first time and the best cup cakes from Cupcakemama (enjoyed them muchly Suzi!!)

Amanda is a great host and all the brides I spoke too, told me about the great service and lovely welcome they received when visiting Amanda's previous boutique so anyone looking for a dress must go and see her in what is quite simply a breath taking setting. I hope to get the chance to shoot some photos there in the future to take advantage of the amazing setting.

Dalvenie House followed by a reception at the Smugglers Den Inn, Cubert

On what has probably been the hottest and sunniest day of the year so far, I had the absolute pleasure to spend the day with Cate and Neil and their family and friends to enjoy the wedding celebrations. They are a young couple who happen to live just down the road and friends kindly recommended me to Cate's mum, Michelle.

As their special day drew closer we headed to the Smugglers for a meet-up and chat about their plans for the day to make sure everything went smoothly and was as stress free as possible.

Cate wore a beautiful vintage style dress from County Cream and Neil and his groomsmen had very dapper tweeds with caps and colourful purple ties.

The weather on the day was spectacular and after a relaxed morning in accommodation near the Smugglers, shooting some getting ready shots, we headed to Truro with Cate arriving in a fantastic VW campervan that has been lovingly cared for.

Cate was given away by her grandfather, this is one of my favourite shots of the day and one which I hope will grow in significance as time passes.

It was lovely to watch the scene unfold as Neil and Cate took their vows and exchanged rings, hardly taking their eyes off each other for a second!!

After the ceremony, we headed off to Crantock beach to make the most of the sunshine and to capture some couples shots, giving Cate and Neil a bit of a breather following the busy morning.

After being fed handsomely (thanks guys!) and shooting the speeches, cake cutting and groups, we took a little more time out to make the most of a corn field next door to the pub which had grown to a perfect height since the pre-meet a few weeks before. The couple enjoyed their first dance and I set up some off-camera flashes to backlight them, thinking that the shots would suit some black and white images to match their vintage theme.

Cate and Neil were absolutely the best couple to work for and they were relaxed and happy to go with the flow to capture some images to be enjoyed for years to come. Bucketfuls of laughter, lots of smiles and happy faces (a few tears Michelle!!) A perfect day. Very best wishes to Cate and Neil for their future together and big hugs to all, not forgetting the gorgeous little Imogen of course. Xx

The latest edition of the visually stunning Cornwall WED magazine is out this month and one of the images that I shot last autumn has been featured and used by Amanda of Amanda K in her lastest advert. This is a shot of Kate with her actual dad who both kindly agreed to model for us on the day. It was a bit grey outside so I used a touch of flash from a large 'softbox' diffuser and portable flash to soften the light. This has balanced the light and makes the colours richer and given a nice shine to Kate's lovely locks.

The team creating the look for this shoot included NV Hair from Falmouth, Jewellery by Michael Spiers, make up for the models on the day was by Sally Orchard and Suzi Winter.

How do images come presented as part of a digital wedding photography package?

How do my wedding images arrive with me?

One of the things that couples ask me when we meet is how many images they will get and in what form they will get them. So that question has prompted this blog post and a few images to help answer that question.

The number of images that come with a digital package is the hardest one to pin down - typically an average sized wedding is likely to result in, for me (other photographers will give different thoughts and views on this) about 250 images. Part of the fee that you pay as a client is to cover the time it takes me to select and edit the images that are taken on the day. Often people think that the fee is high for a day's shooting at a wedding but change their view when it is explained to them that there is a significant amount of time taken in the days following the wedding (and some before for that matter - meeting the couple, venue visits, gear preparation etc) to select and edit only those images that I am happy are of a standard to provide to the couple.

So the fee covers time to plan, visit venues (there may be more than one), pre-meet the couple, travel, gear clean and check and that is before the cost of insurance, expensive cameras, lenses, flashes and other equipment are factored in.

So that gives an idea of the number of images that are usually provided and most couples are glad that the task of reducing the number down to something manageable is not theirs!!

The images arrive in high resolution - these tend to be large file sizes due to the high quality images produced by the best cameras and are JPEG format so are readable by the majority of computers.

The images can also be supplied in a format that means they are ready to upload to Facebook and other social media sites as large files are not needed for this purpose.

I also upload the images to an online image gallery on my website so that you can share a link and password with your family, friends and guests to enable them to view the images and order prints directly from my website if they wish to do so.

The images come presented on a wooden 'pebble' USB flash stick that is kept safe in a case with a folding lid.

If wood is not your thing, a personalised case and usb stick like the red on in the pics below is available for a small additional charge of £20.

A selection of images can also be bespoke arranged in a hand finished album at an additional cost.

To give you an idea of the products I use, here are some images and a short video clip that show examples of an album style that is proving popular with couples at the moment. The wedding albums shown here are A3 pages and are a almost a metre across the double page spread which are really impressive when viewed. It comes in its own protective presentation box, which can be heavy white gloss card or a wooden protective box, with a printed dust jacket and heavy weight pages.

I have been thinking about whether a subscription the movie site Animoto might be a good investment. As a photographer, the Animoto service caught my eye and produced an attractive clip from my uploads. These were taken on a recent trip to the park with the Greens, Aimee, Jeff, Ollie and Seb. You can mix photos and video, select music and best of all try it for free! Will try a few more before I decide I think. Enjoy.

Location scouting for promotional shoot with Explore in Cornwall

Earlier this week, a break in the weather finally gave an opportunity to meet up with friend and http://www.exploreincornwall.co.uk/ business owner Steve, to look for local spots that might suit some promotional work. Steve is a highly qualified outdoor guide who is constantly updating and refreshing his skills. As a consequence of a recent navigation training accreditation, Steve now wants to promote that element of his business offer to complement his existing range of adventure walks.

We met at Steve's on the outskirts of Ludgvan for a brew and to plan the day's outing into the Penwith moors in his comfortable VW used to take clients on their exciting days out. After pouring over the local OS map, a trawl of locations followed, guided by Steve's expert local knowledge, a few unfortunate soakings (I thought the weather had broken!) and this took us up to lunchtime, a well earned pasty (good one too, thanks Steve) at the historically important Geevor site.

Bellies full and sun shining, we headed out once more and took in the last few stops with expansive views over Zennor to seek backdrops for some images. We did grab a few pics as we went, well it would have been a shame not to get the camera out....

I have not had the opportunity to immerse myself in this special bit of Cornwall for a while now so little excuse was needed, and here's a few shots from our day out scouting around. If you want to learn loads about Cornwall's special countryside, I can't recommend a day out with Steve enough!

WED Magazine Cornwall, excited to have an image featured for use in Amanda K advert

Getting images published in high profile and high quality magazines is right up there with seeing the reaction of a client once you hand over their images when you know you have got want they hoped for.

This post is written with excitement as the latest issue of WED Magazine (issue 28 2014) features an image that I shot late last year for friend and wedding enthusiast Amanda, of Amanda K Bridal Boutique. Working with Jess Collins of TYPE Communications, we planned the shoot to give Amanda a set of images to promote her fast growing business. The models, Jodie, Kate, Kerra and Lauren were all stunning, made all the more apparent by expert make-up artists, Suzi Winter and Sally Orchard and hair by NV of Falmouth.

We were lucky with some better light than had been the case in the days leading up to the shoot and with a little help with some location lighting on the day, all were pleased with the shots. The Rose in Vale allowed us the space to shoot at their hotel and features some lovely bay windows to shoot as a backdrop with. The addition of very select stones in pieces from Michael Spiers, renowned jewellers and very stylish head pieces by Flo and Percy completed the looks. All in all, a very enjoyable day and meeting lots of new people with a passion and interest for what they do was certainly the highlight for me.

Time off over Christmas

I found myself taking pretty much two weeks off this Christmas, a rare treat!! As a result we visited some of the growing family and of course I was not without my camera...... We spent a few days in London over the New Year and got to catch up with the adorable nieces and nephews, so here's a few. Happy New Year everyone!!

Promo shoot for Amanda K - with a dream team

Hairspray, I love the taste of hairspray at eight in the morning!! Well, last Friday I didn't mind one bit because I had the absolute pleasure of working alongside Amanda from Amanda K Bridal Boutique, Jess from TYPE Communications, Sally Orchard and Suzi Winter who are both well respected local make up artists, David from Michael Spiers - the Jewellers most people will be familiar with in Truro and last but certainly not least, Jo and Natalie from NV Hairdressing, based in Falmouth.

I arrived at the Rose in Vale Hotel in Mithian, near St Agnes to find hair and make up already being applied to the lovely Jodie, Kerra, Lauren and Kate, not forgetting Lee and Rob too - but I can't give too many clues away, it's Amanda K's show!!

The weather looked promising, early morning bright skies and a head full of ideas that had been focussed down in pre-meets with Amanda and Jess, together with a visit to the Hotel meet Katharine, the Hotel's wedding specialist, who showed us around to gather info on possible locations.

Suzi, Sally, Jo and Natalie continued their work with the models to get them ready to get into their bridal gowns, headpieces and jewellery carefully chosen by Amanda and Jess to style the looks they wanted to achieve.

You'll need to check in with Amanda's website and when she is ready she will tell you more about her thoughts on that I'm sure.

In between setting up lights and shifting camera gear around rooms, I watched in awe as these incredibly talented people worked away skilfully. I can't say I didn't feel under a little pressure to make the most of the opportunity to work with such a talented team!!

Amanda had arranged with David from Michael Spiers Jewellery to supply some beautiful gems and they did not disappoint, the girl's faces said it all when David revealed some impressive pieces - the real deal that finished the look and brought grins to faces!!

As the looks for the models were completed, we headed off to parts of the hotel and grounds to take the photos that Amanda and Jess are now looking over to choose their favourites to promote Amanda K. No sneaky peeks of those just yet, but we hope to be able to share some of the other shots from the day with you all shortly, keep checking in with the blog here and at Amanda K's for some of the shots in the coming days!

Oh and if you do visit the Hotel, don't forget to pat this little Hippo on the head!!

Pre-wedding meet-up with Rachel, Jonny and Poppy

Last Sunday I had arranged to meet up with the lovely Rachel and her husband-to-be, Jonny. As I drove further west, hoping that we had all remembered to alter our clocks in unison so to be in the same place at the same time, the wind had a bit of a puff to it. The views in Mounts Bay were spectacular as the waves rolled in to the shore.

I met up with Rachel and Jonny shortly after, at the gate to a field on top of the Penwith skyline and was delighted to see that they had also brought their young and bouncy springer, Poppy. After telling me a little bit about their plans for the day, we had a stomp around the lovely location with spectacular views all around and took a few frames to remind them through the winter of the exciting occasion to come next year. Poppy posed like a true professional for my lens and then as the sky blackened and winds increased, we headed back to theirs for warming brew. Thanks guys, lovely to meet you both and can't wait to shoot your wedding!

Live music photos at Chenhale Equestrian Center, an event funded by the Lottery

A bit of a different blog post this evening. I just happened to be popping into a local music event in the village which has been funded by the Lottery Fund and ended up being asked by one of the bands to take a few shots for them - never off duty!

The event was supposed to be outside in the park, however the torrential rain on Friday meant it was moved into the new local sand school venue. Even under cover there were a few drips as you can see!! Free pasty - what more is needed??!!

Wedding photos from Joe and Zoe's wedding in St Austell, Cornwall - glorious sunshiny day!

Saturday 6th July was the big day for Joe and Zoe and what a day it turned out to be, soaring temperatures and bright blue skies, perfect for a wedding, care needed to photograph it well though as a result...

The day for me started around 8am, leaving home to meet up with Zoe and her bridesmaids at her grandparents house, whilst chatting away and having a cuppa, I met Brian the dog and various family members.

With shots of the dress, shoes and tiara, together some bridal preparation shots committed to my camera memory card, I headed off to meet up with Joe, the groom and the son of a great friend of mine. This made the day all the more special to capture.

The ceremony was light hearted and there were some fun moments to capture of this pair who were clearly made to be together.

A short trip to a field owned by Zoe's grandparents where a marquee had been erected, beer and wine chilled and pasties dutifully delivered got the afternoon off to a fantastic start.

As the afternoon led to early evening, yet more food for the guests in the shape of a hog roast kept everyone in high spirits. A kaleigh band proved to be highly popular with the guests with Joe and Zoe leading from the front!

As the evening went on, the glorious hazy sun started to lower in the sky, guests put up tents and beer barrels started to be emptied, the final few songs were sung and people started to say their goodbyes, all with wide grins on their faces.

Rainy day portrait opportunity in the cornish mizzle

With the rain seemingly a feature more often than not at the moment, I thought it would be a good opportunity to try a portrait photograph with a colourful umbrella to brighten up the shot. Using a special off camera flash technique allowed me to capture the rain drops (well Cornish mizzle at least!) that would have otherwise not shown up in the image. With my willing subject and wellies worn, we headed out to capture a couple of frames. I liked this one best, if you have a few spare moments, why not let me know what you think? Sparing a thought for those brides and photographers who might be at marriage ceremonies today.....

With the weather being so great for a few days last week, Friday evening gave the ideal opportunity to head to Gwithian and Godrevy on the glorious north coast of Cornwall to shoot some couple portraits in the relaxed company of Sophie and Will. They were a delight to shoot, naturally interacting with each other to get some shots that I hope they will continue to enjoy well into the future. After taking the photos we headed into the local pub for a light refreshment and a chat before heading our separate ways into the sunset. I love shooting photos...

Long hazy days, at last!!! An evening taking photos to promote an upcoming family celebration

Finally it seems that we have seen the back of the cold, windy weather. I couldn't resist sneaking out to catch the last rays of sunshine to capture a few shots to remind us all how it can be sometimes. It might be a bit controversial, but when the sun shines, I don't think there is a better place to be than this glorious part of the west country. Great location to host a wedding....;)

20 years together and celebrating in style in Paris

So I'm thinking I'd better get organised to celebrate our being together for 20 years and a special birthday for Loose (that shall remain numberless!). Weeks of looking for the right hotel, using every trick available and appalling broken french to book a table at Le Jules Verne on the Eiffel Tower - well it wasn't a disappointment, what amazing views! Treated to a nightly show of the lights on the iconic tower and some of the most wonderful food ever! Great time with Loose, what a fantastic place and photo opportunities around every corner, I just had to reign my enthusiasm in for once to not spend all the time clicking away! Just had to share a little piece of the trip with you! Here's to the next 20!!

A recent shoot with the lovely Kirsty and daughter Layla produced some keepsake shots. Layla now has a little brother in the time it has taken me to blog a few images from the session! Great fun trying a few ideas to look back on and to create a smile in years to come. Such a privilege to be able to shoot such a special moment...

So a lovely sunny Sunday just passed by and Sophie and I spent a fantastic 4 hours or so shooting portraits in a kind of vintage style. Here's one or two shots from the shoot that caught my eye in particular. Great afternoon in good company, thanks Soph!
